Abstract:
The IOC Strategic Plan for Oceanographic Data and Information Management (2017-2021) was discussed and approved at the 29 th session of UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) Assembly in June 2019 and is now published as IOC Manuals and Guides No. 77. The vision of this Strategy Plan is to achieve: "A comprehensive and integrated ocean data and information system, serving the broad and diverse needs of IOC Member States, for both management and scientific use.". The following five outputs will be expected to achieve the strategy plan through a number of targeted activities and related actions:
- Improved ability to integrate national, regional and global data systems.
- Improved capability and functionality of systems in the centres managing oceanographic data and information.
- Promote free and open access to oceanographic data and information and adherence to IOC Oceanographic Data Exchange policy.
- Address the needs of both the scientific users and society at large for the demand for access to quality data and information.
- Strengthened capacity to manage oceanographic data and information.
